::Some of the Best Practices for Improving Dot Net Web Application

It is now possible for anyone who has a basic Dot Net certification to build a web application and host it. However, most of these are mediocre at best and the slow loading speed and other glitches result in a very poor customer satisfaction rate. The following simple and easy practices can really make a difference in your project and make it a high performance application.

1. Use Caching: This is a widely suggested step but developers often oversee it. Using caching in web application that has near static web page content or infrequent content updates can make a lot of difference in its speed and performance. Storing the page or part of the page output also greatly reduces the client – server processing.

2. Disable View State: View state is a useful mechanism for pages that require data entry. However, for most other pages, it is an extra feature for the end users that just add more size to the page. At the same time, it increases the memory allocations on the server. Hence, it is advisable to disable view stats whenever possible or feasible.

3. Reduce the number of round trips to server: Wherever possible reduce the number of round trips to the server for unchanged content in the database. The server takes time to process the result and create the object before the data is sent back to the client. This increases the loading time to a great extent, especially when it is coupled with issues like a busy server, latent network, etc.

4. Enable compression: While most images in general are compressed while being transferred, the HTML, CSS and JavaScript are largely transferred as text. Using algorithms like the gzip compression algorithm, the net size of the HTML content can be reduced to almost one third of the original size which is a very large increase in efficiency.

5. Minimize the file size: There are a few simple steps that you can take to minimize your file size apart from compressing it. One example would be using vector or .svg files as they are in general smaller in size as compared to raster images. While this is not always possible, it is something worthwhile to keep in mind. Apart from that, if you have a clear understanding of the compression and decompression process, you can tweak the codes like eliminating unnecessary whitespace to gain additional reduction in file size.

These are but five of a long list of practices that you can adopt to improve the performance of your application. With a proper dot net certification course you can get an in depth idea about how to make your application a small sized, fast and high yield product for your users and clients and boost its overall performance.
